Coronavirus and Mental Health Tips

Mar 28, 2020

It was my pleasure to be a guest on Denver News Channel 9 via Facebook Live to share some tips about maintaining mental health during coronavirus quarantine. The main theme (as usual in mental health) is creating healthy boundaries. Be mindful about when and how you’re consuming stressful information. Try to divide your home space into a safe area and an area where you hear about what’s happening in the world. Maybe you watch or read the news on your computer sitting at the kitchen counter, and reserve the living room TV for only happy, light media. Please do not watch or read the news in your bedroom. The bedroom should be for sleeping and partner intimacy only. Personally, I am only watching the news from 5-6pm Monday through Thursday. If anything major happens I’m sure I will hear about it from friends and family. Because of my previous life experience and zen studies right now I am working with the mantra “Let go or be dragged.” That may work for you, or-especially if you’re working on the frontlines- you might try “In this moment, I am safe and healthy.” When you are home, safe, and healthy, remind yourself of this and cultivate this sense of wellbeing in the mindbody.
